Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 5-6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the cream cheese frosting:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. Add in the eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, salt, cocoa powder, and red food coloring. Mix well.
  3. Add in the flour, one cup at a time, until the dough forms a smooth ball.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for an hour in a warm, draft-free place.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  7. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle shape.
  9. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  10. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into slices about 1 inch thick.
  11. Place the cinnamon rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  13. While the cinnamon rolls are baking, make the cream cheese frosting by mixing together cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk in a medium bowl.
  14. Once the cinnamon rolls are done, let them cool for a few minutes before spreading the cream cheese frosting on top.
